I want to thank everyone for their wonderful responses to yesterday’s post “Moving Forward”. I was stunned to see how many people responded so positively and also how many people reached out. It makes me feel good about writing that post, even though it strayed a little bit from the genre of this blog. However, we must all remember that a healthy life doesn’t just include food and fitness, but also mental health.
Anyways!! Today I ran around like a crazy person. I needed a small break from packing boxes (even though I did pack one more) and I decided to do most of the errands that needed to be completed before my big move. However, I needed a workout! Does that seem weird that I wanted to exhaust myself before a busy day? Sometimes exercise has opposite effects on me (try it out the next time you seem a little tired).
Club NewTone, the gym I go to here in Indiana, just had a major renovation and it included a new lap pool, which is separate from their outdoor recreational pool. The lanes are wide and spacious and the temp was just cool enough! I did about 35 minutes alternating between breast stroke and back crawl. I’m not a super swimmer but it felt good to mix up my workout!
I had to then tackle this mess. A load of donation items all set to be taken to the local Goodwill. It took about five trips back and forth from my car just to get it all in. However, I made a delicious protein smoothie so that my afternoon of errands wasn’t deterred by extreme hunger.
In this smoothie:
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1/3 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 TBSP peanut butter
- 1 scoop whey protein powder
- 1 large handful of spinach
- 2 tsp chia seeds
- enough soy milk to make it blend up
It was perfect because it was about 92 degrees today and I wasn’t feeling a huge lunch but definitely needed calories to fuel the rest of my day. . . because a lot looked like this.
I was however able to sell some clothes at Plato’s closet and some gently used books at a local bookstore to help create some cash for gas needed to get me back to PA 🙂
Last, but definitely not least, I got to teach cycle tonight! Only one more week with this lovely group of participants. I’ll miss them very much, they’ve worked so hard and I’ve seen improvements in each and every one of them.
One of the drills that we did today that truly kicked my bum:
Pick one song (preferably 4 minutes or longer). Treat it as a hill, adding resistance every 20 – 30 seconds. After every two hikes in resistance, do a 20 second sprint. When the resistance gets really high, it definitely qualifies as some HIIT training (I’ll focus on that a little later).

After teaching, I was STARVED. Everything in my apartment looked good, so I put it all on a salad. Seriously, it was a SALAD BEAST ala The Fitnessista 😉 I may or may not have put leftover mac and cheese on this. I’ll leave that up to you to decide.
Now it’s time to curl up on the couch with the newest Self Magazine and relax (and maybe have a mint oreo or two…)
