Fueling up for a healthy life!

Speed Work

March 28, 2012

Happy “Over the Hump” Day everyone!  Can’t believe it’s already the middle of the week.

Yesterday, knowing my need to have things on a list to get them done, I created a 6 week training plan to get me ready for the PGH Half Marathon.  Yes, I know you’re thinking “geez 6 weeks is short”, but keep in mind I just ran a half almost a week ago.  I know I have the stamina, now it’s time to hone in my speed!

Today’s workout was 8 x 400 repeats.  I had originally read it as “4 x 800” repeats, good job dyslexia!  Remembering how much I despise 400s from my time on the track team, I whipped out  my new shoes to motivate me.

I think they worked, because I didn’t hate my workout.

It definitely wasn’t a long run on the beach on a sunny day, but it wasn’t horrible either.

Time/mileage Speed
0 – 5:00 6.0 mph
0.25 miles 7.8 mph (around 7:45 pace)
0.10 mile 3.5 mph

repeat 8X

It took me about 30 minutes with warmup and cooldown.  Definitely a hot sweaty mess by the end.

I think my new shoes helped!  What do you think?

running is a pain in the assI found this on pinterest and I thought it was appropriate for speed days!  Made me giggle a little bit 🙂

Need some new music to boost your run or workout?  Well Madonna is at it again!  Here’s my favorite song off her new album.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!  Bust a move 😉

Question for the Day:

What music motivates you?
