Focus on 30 Days

It's January, and if you're like most of us, you're trying to decide on a New Year's resolution. Maybe you've already kicked into full swing making healthy changes, organizing your home, or creating a budget. New Year's is a great time of year for goal setting, but it can feel overwhelming. You're thinking about "what can I commit to for the next 365 days?" That's a lot of days! The behavior change expert, BJ Fogg, tells us to strike while the iron is hot. Pretty much, if you're feeling motivated right now, then start to plan out those changes NOW. Motivation ebbs and flows, so it's important to take advantage of it while it's here. However, Fogg also instructs us to start with "tiny habits" instead of large, lofty goals. It's ok to envision yourself running the marathon, being 20 pounds lighter, or having an extra $1000 in your savings, however, to make that happen, we need to think about the small things that will get us there. That's why this year I'm focusing on … Read More
2017 in Review

Happy New Year! I’m so excited for a fresh start, a fresh year, and hopefully fresh opportunities. While I’m not a huge new year’s resolution person, I do love the energy this time of year brings for each of us. We’re taking the time to reflect on last year, identify what we loved, where we could make improvements, and hopefully start to plan a way to implement change. I’ll be writing a blog post soon about how I’m approaching my 2018 goals. For now, I’d like to take a look back at 2017, which was filled with change, adventure, and lessons. In January, we found out that our lease would be up on the townhome we were renting. This forced us to make a decision and we felt it was a good time for us to purchase our first home. With lots of support from friends and family, we closed in February and started making this house a home. While moving is never a fun experience, it was worth it knowing we were moving into a home that was fully ours. We learned so much in the … Read More
Holiday Gift Guide 2017

How it is already half way through December? I feel like it was just last week that we were gearing up to host our first Thanksgiving. It was such a fun experience (a little stressful), but overall a lot of fun! I loved choosing the dishes and having my family in our home. Since it is 2 (ish) weeks until Christmas, I’m happy to say I have most of my holiday shopping finalized, but it always feels like you remember that one person you’ll be seeing and need a unique fun gift for. Whether you’re just starting to put your list together or you’re looking to treat yourself now that all your gifts are perfectly wrapped under the tree, I want to share some of my favorite gifts this season (you could even bookmark for future birthday gifts). Oiselle Cat Lady Racerback : for your friend, your mom, or for you, this dreamy sports bra will keep you toasty on the run or when you’re sipping hot chocolate post-run. 2017 Book Update

Oh my goodness – can you believe it’s already November!? Since 2015, I’ve set at New Year’s Resolution to read 12 books each year (one per month). So far, I haven’t completed my resolution and honestly that’s not the point. I love to read, but I sometimes struggle to find the time. This resolution helps keep me accountable and reminds me to put down the phone each evening and pick up my book, even if just for 5 minutes. Reading before bed helps me fall asleep more quickly and have a more restful night of sleep. I’m a pretty anxious person, and escaping through a book helps to calm the constant barrage of thoughts going through my head. This year started off pretty slow with reading. We spent the first 3 months of 2017 in a home search and then eventually moving into our townhome. I still have to do a blog post about that! However, since then, I’ve been reading an assortment of books. I’ve loved getting recommendations this … Read More
For the Love of the Trail

It's been a little while since I posted! And to be honest, it's because I've been cheating on running. It's hard to find inspiration to write about running, fueling for running, or races if you haven't been in that arena for a bit. In July, Devin and I found the joy of hiking. It was completely accidental, but probably one of the best hobbies we stumbled across. Typically at the start of summer, we will make our "bucket list": the top things we'd like to do during the season. Some friends had told us how beautiful Harper's Ferry was and that we should definitely visit. See my post here on that day trip. So, we hit the trail after lunch and some historical site-seeing. The hike was about 5 miles and a pretty steep incline to a beautiful overlook of the rivers and downtown Harper's Ferry. Our heart rates were elevated, our legs were burning, and it was exhilarating to have the reward of the overlook after a tough upward climb. On the way home, I felt a sense of utter … Read More
