I used to be a peanut butter toast kind of girl. Only because it was quick and also portable. During my internship I needed something I could grab and take with me for a one hour commute.
But now that I’m in an office and also have a shorter commute, I have the time to make a breakfast that doesn’t need to be wrapped in foil! Hip Hip Hooray!
Oatmeal with peanut butter and bananas is my ultimate breakfast! It’s satisfying, warm, and with the addition of peanut butter it has fiber, protein, and healthy fats. A dietitian’s dream!
Also, oatmeal really is an all over “superfood” if you will read this post on why I’m hesitant to even use the term superfood. But here’s a few reasons why oatmeal could be a great addition to any diet:
1. It is a whole grain plus you can find gluten free oats. Eating whole grains can actually lower the risk of certain diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Plus whole grains provide a hit of healthy fiber to increase satiety and manage appetite.
2. It could lower cholesterol. Fiber acts like a vacuum for cholesterol by latching on and letting the body rid itself of excess. That’s the reason cheerios touts the cholesterol lowering abilities of its products (although I would go more towards oats than a processed cereal…)
3. It tastes good! Duh – who would want to eat a food that tastes bad? It’s a great base for toppings and flavors and it can go savory or sweet! If you want more ways to doll up your oatmeal, check out KathEats. She’s the princess of oats.
So when MyOatmeal offered to let me sample some of their products, I was totally game! I get to design my own oatmeal? Who wouldn’t love that!?
With the store credit they gave me, I designed two different oatmeal blends as well as a powdered peanut butter. I think this is a company after my own heart – peanut butter and oatmeal?
I’m a huge carrot cake fan – I like to pretend it’s healthy because it has carrots… hmmm
Anyways, MyOatmeal has different all natural flavorings that you can select for your oatmeal, along with nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and sweeteners. I opted out of the sweeteners since I prefer honey or stevia. To the tropical carrot cake I added dried pineapple and pecans.
For Coconut Snickerdoodle Flax, I think it’s a bit more self explanatory: snickerdoodle flavoring, dried coconut, and flax seed. Right now, I can’t pick a favorite. The dried pineapple in the carrot cake is definitely tilting more in that direction!
As for the dried peanut butter…
Of course it was birthday cake flavored. I don’t know a better way to celebrate my birthday next week than with cake flavored peanut butter. I’m thinking this will make an AWESOME smoothie! Maybe some cacao nibs?
I don’t write good reviews of a product unless it absolutely deserves it, and this is one product and company I love. It’s good quality ingredients, great customer service, and a delicious product.
