Happy Black Friday! If you’re joining in on the RW Run Streak, this is also Day 2 – so hopefully you’re still with me. I got in a Turkey Trot at the gym this year for Day 1. Usually we have our local turkey trot, but with it being 17 degrees on Thanksgiving morning with wind, we decided to head indoors and enjoy some temperature control. Today, I got a quick 1 mile run in after all my errands were done today. Not bad for 2 days!
I hope you enjoyed a great Thanksgiving with family and friends! Thanksgiving was great at our house – full of family and food…delicious food that was hard not to go a little overboard on. Because of the holiday, I thought I’d focus my Five Things Friday to honor food, family, and the chaos that is the holidays. Enjoy!
#1 Pecan Pie
Yes, eating pumpkin pie is the healthier option, but when you haven’t had a homemade pecan pie in years, there’s just nothing like it. As a dietitian, I always recommend to enjoy the holiday, but get back on the wagon the next day. You’ll come out better for it come New Year’s when you treat the holidays as “days” and not entire 6 week season.
You better believe I enjoyed my holiday Pecan pie and whipped cream included.
#2 Apple Cider
Back in October, a few of us took a trip to Charlottesville, VA to winery and cider-y (?) hop. I brought a few bottles of cider home with me, but because they were pretty big bottles of cider, I knew that I wanted to share it. So one bottle made it home for Thanksgiving. The other will make it home for Christmas. Aren’t the holidays merrier with a little alcohol?
Over the river and through the woods…yep. Something just like that. Pittsburgh got hit with the massive snow storm and luckily I was able to make it home ahead of it before any bad weather hit. But having snow for Thanksgiving definitely made it feel more like the holidays. I’m definitely more of a northerner because I definitely appreciate this weather!
#4 A Hillbilly Pre-Wash
Cascade ain’t got nothin’ on us. This is what makes our dishes so shiny I guess he couldn’t help himself, he had to smell turkey and stuffing cooking all day. Poor Chance!
What would the holidays be without our crazy, wacky, yet wonderful families? Definitely thankful for this crazy bunch of weirdos that I get to share a gene pool with!
