Day 2 of the Crazy Sexy Challenge. Today was a lot harder, and for one reason only…no coffee.
So here was my substitute: Kris recommends jumpstarting your day with a glass of water with lemon and a little cayenne, however I’ve been drinking my ACV drink a few times a week already and decided to continue with it.
ACV Drink (modified from Tone it Up):
- 1/4 cup of juice (I prefer apple since it goes well with ACV)
- 2 big splashes of apple cider vinegar (I don’t measure)
- sprinkle of cinnamon
- half a sprinkle of cinnamon
- fill the rest up with water and ice and mix
It is always a nice kick in the pants in the morning, but I love me some coffee. I was missing it.
Since I need a filling breakfast, a thick green smoothie was whipped up.
- 1/2 frozen banana
- big handful of spinach
- 1/4 cup blueberries
- 1 TBSP natural peanut butter
- coconut milk to desired consistency
Even with a liquid breakfast, I was full for quite a few hours!
Before heading out the door, I read the affirmation of the day. It helped me all day long. When thoughts of fro-yo and coffee danced through my head, I thought “I deserve health, I deserve to give my body the best”.
Yet a few hours later I was damning that statement. I wanted coffee, I need coffee, my head was pounding and I felt spacey.
Cycling saved me. I had a horrible headache (confessions of a caffeine addict) and the endorphins from teaching my lunch time bunch soothed the pounding.
Have you ever given up coffee??? I wanted to jump every person I saw with a Starbucks cup and demand they hand over the goods.
One thing that I’m surprised about is how filling this challenge is. I thought I’d be hungry or craving a MEAL, but that is far from the truth so far. Lunch actually made me have a food baby, an all natural vegan food baby, but a food baby none the less
I reheated some of my chickpea and rice mixture alongside a huge SALAD BEAST!
Oh, and to soothe my sweet tooth I had a square of organic dark chocolate. I heard great things about Green and Black’s but Newman’s Own was on sale at Wegmans (note: it is made in a factory where there is milk and wheat, but it does not contain any of these ingredients) It was really good! I can’t do the 70% cocoa, but this 54% was a great medium and not too bitter.
Before heading to my second job, I downed the rest of the green juice I made yesterday. I found the taste to be a little sweeter and less intense today. Almost as though the flavored melded together. Has anyone every noticed this with juicing?
To wrap up my day, I created a faux Buddha Bowl. It’s a recipe in Crazy Sexy Diet of beans, rice, and lots of veggies, so I created my own Mexican Buddha bowl (is that an oxymoron?)
Brown rice with garlic and chili powder, black beans cooked with salsa and bell pepper, topped with fresh tomato, avocado, and lettuce. Chipotle doesn’t have nothin’ on me (brush yo shoulda off).
Thoughts on Day 2
It was much harder than day 1. Being back into the grind and trying to fit new habits into old routines is hard, but in the end this will be a rewarding experience.
I’m not sure how long I will do this. In the book it calls for 21 days, however I’m not doing this to lose weight, to become vegan, or anything else. This is really a way for me to reboot my system. Probably in a few days I’ll add in some coffee or organic meat.
What I’m learning is to really think about every bite that goes into my body and its purpose. Food is fuel, food is our lifeline, and it should also be pleasurable.
