Thanks for stopping by Eat on the Run! I’m Melissa, a Registered Dietitian, fitness instructor, and run coach who loves coffee, kitties, and the beach. This blog is where I write about fun workouts, delicious healthy (and maybe indulgent) recipes, and also all the running I do and races I’ve run. I enjoy sharing these moments because it allows me to revisit the fun I have living a healthy life. I also hope that I can offer some inspiration for us to get out there and get moving more!
A lot has changed since the first days of the blog. First, I completed my dietetic internship from the University of Maryland in the summer of 2013. It was a chaotic year full of fun, tears, and lots of travel. I wouldn’t trade the experience or friends for anything!
Right after, I completed my 200 Hour Yoga Training at Charm City Yoga in Baltimore. It was probably one of the experiences that I’ll look back on and appreciate for getting me so far out of my comfort zone (namaste.)
Since 2013, I’ve been working as a full time corporate wellness dietitian, coaching employees in their pursuit of a healthier lifestyle. The days are never the same and helps me fuel my passion for health and wellness during the 9 to 5!
I live in Maryland in the DC metro area with my wonderful husband (see the who’s who) and Charlie Cat (also see the who’s who). The best days are the ones that start with coffee and a workout
My Fitness Obsession:
I’ve always been into health and nutrition – my grandma gave me a step bench when I was in 7th grade which is when I started doing Denise Austin workout tapes (yes – TAPES!) religiously. Then in high school, I started running with my dad. He would drag my butt out of bed at 5am for a quick 3 mile run before school and before he would head off to work. It wasn’t until 2009 that I ran my first half marathon, and since then I’ve been addicted to distance running. Since then I’ve done over 10 halfs and 1 full! Call me C-R-A-Z-Y! I’m glad I’ve found a lot of other crazy runner friends who understand my love of Hammer Gels and running shoes 😉
Another passion of mine is teaching fitness classes. While at PSU, I took a kinesiology course that helped me learn to instruct group exercise. After that, I had a whole new family and a whole new life revolving around intense workouts and sweaty post workout drinks downtown.
Also, I have always been a huge Penn State fan and will travel to Happy Valley any chance I have! From 2011 to 2012, I worked as the Assistant Fitness Coordinator for Penn State Fitness and it was truly one of the best jobs I’ve ever had.
The Who’s Who:
Devin came into my life through a chance meeting at work. We fell in love between our equal love of workouts, coffee, and our families. It’s been a wonderful ride so far! We got married on Jekyll Island in March of 2016 and it was definitely the best day ever.
I spend a lot of time with these guys. My mom is my best friend and my dad has always been my rock. They usually make regular appearances on the blog – so keep your eyes peeled!
Then there’s this guy – Charlie (chuck, charles, chuckles, whatever you choose to call him). We’ve been together since Eat on the Run was started (Summer 2010). even thought he may not make regular appearances since his life revolves around sleep, Fancy Feast, and catnip, you will still see him every so often because he’s just too cute!
