Yeah, I live in DC now, but ever since I’ve moved, I’ve been traveling/entertaining so much that I haven’t had time to appreciate much of this city, let alone relax a bit! Knowing that I had an entire weekend that I could plan all by myself, that’s exactly what I did.
On Friday, I went out to celebrate Amy finally landing a job after our internship! YAY AMY!!!
But then, Saturday rolled around…just one TRX class and a trip to Whole Foods later, and I was pretty much in for the day.
I watched PSU lose to Minnesota…definitely not the highlight of my weekend. Thank goodness I had a little Game Day Red to soothe the ache of a loss. Still luv ya lions
Charlie and I then waited patiently (kind of) for my new furniture to arrive! Yes – NEW FURNITURE! I’ve pretty much had a mish mosh (very technical term) of bedroom furniture. But when I moved into my new apartment, my bedroom felt more like a warehouse and I could tell that my furniture was leaving a bit to be desired.
Once my new headboard and dresser arrived, Charlie made sure he tested it out. Cat approved…
I’m not sure I could get by without his approval on things
Then, the evening proceeded with homemade pizza – just what the doctor ordered.
Have you ever tried Rao’s sauces? They have a great variety and I’m partial to them, which is surprising because I typically don’t like jarred tomato sauce. And in usual Rao style, this was some of the best pizza sauces I’ve ever had. I may or may not have eaten it straight out of the jar while waiting for my pizza to be done.
I love making pizza! Whole wheat dough, peppers, mushrooms, and hot Italian chicken sausage with mozzarella cheese. DELISH!
Sunday had a slow start for me, but it was a nice change of pace compared to the last 5 to 6 weekends where I’ve either had company or been out of town. A few episodes of Vampire Diaries (don’t judge) and cups of coffee later and I was ready to meet Maria in Old Towne for some early Christmas Shopping and dinner!
It was an almost perfect day. I say almost because the winds almost blew us over. Good thing I had a bite to eat before I headed down there! Maybe a few rocks in my pocket would have worked?
I think Alexandria may be one of my new favorite places. I love Georgetown but Old Towne felt easier to walk around and less crowded - more my style. Plus as we walked the streets there were more restaurants that appealed to me there versus Georgetown!
The Urban/Christmas Attic was probably my favorite stop of the day! So many beautiful Christmas ornaments and decorations to look at. Sometimes I wish I could just dip my apartment into one of these stores and pull it out dripping in holiday cheer…am I the only one?
Once our feet were sufficiently tired from walking and our stomachs were growling, we popped into a local restaurant for an early dinner. I’m still not used to the time change because it was 5pm and I was ready for dinner and bed already — woof, I felt old…
Virtue Feed & Grain was a perfect selection. Maria made the suggestion since she has been there before, and she nailed it. The décor was awesome with it’s wooden beams and distressed leather benches. I could have stayed there all night sipping hard cider.

I enjoyed the fish tacos although I thought french fries were an odd pairing. Sorry, but I’m not one who understands how french fries are always the go to side dish with most foods…
But the fish tacos were delicious, and filling!
After a relaxing and fun filled weekend, I’m sad that I’m sitting here on a Monday writing this, but so it goes…All good things must come to end. Well that is until next weekend
How did you spend your weekend? Race? Relax? Adventure?
