It’s been almost 2 weeks for us to be at our new Bethesda location – and for me, I’m finishing up my 5th week at Wellness Corporate Solutions! I can remember a few months ago completing my internship rotation with them and thinking “I have to get myself back here!”. Mission accomplished
Even though the other location was great (I think I was just proud to be part of the team), Bethesda takes the cake (or should I say carrots?) with it’s metro accessibility, access to healthy food choices, and blinged out new office. The best part of it all? My wonderful co-workers who bring energy, positivity, and fun everyday to our new space!
We are located at the intersection of Arlington Rd and Old Georgetown Rd, a mere 3 blocks from the Bethesda metro and a few blocks from new Bethesda (where you can find Lululemon, Equinox, Sweetgreen, DownDog Yoga and other favorite healthy living hot spots). We enter every morning through a beautiful court yard, which has picnic benches and a small fountain.
As soon as you enter the office, you can tell how bright and welcoming it is. Windows are everywhere, which helps lift your mood and energy when you’ve been staring at a computer screen
You know you’re excited about a new office locale when balloons and welcome messages greet you!
My favorite part of the new office is our grand stair case. It is 2 floors – 2 flights and a killer glute workout! But the lime green steps are what make the statement.
So why would we even trek those stairs more than once a day? Well, the proverbial “carrot on a stick” is located right at the bottom:
That’s right folks! Our new kitchen is there and keeps up marching up and down….up and down….up and down……
Coffee…take the stairs
Water…up and down
Lunch…you’re right – climb the stairs
Glute workout…take them two at a time!
But, we wouldn’t be Wellness Corporate Solutions if we didn’t encourage everyone to take the stairs every chance they had. I honestly don’t even know where the elevator is in the office. I know we have one – but where, no clue!
And, our work stations are like “Trick My Office” came to town. We have cabinets with cushioned benches, ergonomic chairs, and a desk on hydraulics. Actually I have no idea if it’s hydraulics, but I do know that if I push a button, it goes from seated to standing with minimal noise. So great to stretch the leggies after awhile. I probably spend half my work day out of chair. Since retiring my one hour commute and sitting ritual at work, my low back has minimal pain at the end of the day!
And if standing isn’t enough for a WCSer, we can walk, talk, type, and work! It’s a fun way to reach your 10,000 steps a day goal, huh? Juliet, one of our fearless leaders, shows us how it’s done. Oh, have I mentioned she’s famous? Check out the nutrition article she’s quoted in inside today’s Washington Post.
And while a new office where we can walk our talk should be enough, I was also grateful to be alongside some WCSers today to see our company receive 2nd place in the Washington Business Journal’s “Healthiest Employers of 2013” (2 –99 employees category). WAY TO GO WCS!!!
We also hosted the Healthiest CEO Challenge, where Washington area CEOs competed to see who had the brawn, brains, and diet to win the “Healthiest CEO” crown. Job well done to everyone who participated!
So there you have it! Our Healthy Workplace. Not pictured are Salad Fridays, 3:30pm Tabatas, our wellness room, and daily walks. More on those to come.
